This listing is for sized buckram which we use to represent the stiffened material supplied by “paste wives” in the sixteenth century. Paste buckram was used for the foundations of stiffened headdresses such as French hoods and bonnets and frontlets, and as interlinings for “upper bodies”, the pre-cursor of the corset. We recommend it, teamed with our linen canvas, for interlining kirtle and petticoat bodices to provide shape and support.
